About Scopus

Scopus is a database with bibliographical information on scientific literature that is mainly subject to a fee. It primarily collects magazines, books, conference contributions and patents and creates a citation and abstract database for this. Scopus has been provided by Elsevier since November 2004.

scope
According to its own information, Scopus includes the bibliographical information and abstracts of over 75 million articles from over 24,600 titles, including 23,500 peer-reviewed journals  (peer review). Scopus takes into account publications from more than 5,000 international publishers and maps 1.4 billion citations between documents. In 2015 there were still 57 million articles from 21,000 magazines. In addition, 9 million conference contributions (2017: 8 million , 2015: 6.8 million), 194,000 books (2017: 150,000, 2015: 90,000) and 740 book series (2017: 540, 2015: 521) and 39 Millions of patents (2015: 27 million) can be found in the database. The entries include the areas of natural sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences and arts and humanities.

particularities
Scopus enables librarians to directly link links to their full texts in Scopus. This enables institutes to provide direct access to their library system. As a core task, several search options are integrated in Scopus. In addition, various indices such as B. the h-index can be used. A download manager enables access to full-text articles; functions for the automatic creation of bibliographies are also available.
